Programs

Parent support provides resources like support groups, hospital visits, workshops, and resources through email and newsletters.

Parent Support

FOCUS offers a variety of supportive services to our parents and families:  a shoulder to cry on, an understanding of all the acronyms, a visit when a child is hospitalized.

Support groups for families of children with disabilities.

Support Groups

Share Groups are free support groups for parents and meet monthly (September to May) in several locations around metro Atlanta so parents can meet other parents and share tips, fears, and joys.  Support Groups also called Share Groups are the backbone of FOCUS, the first program ever offered. Parent volunteers facilitate the groups, keeping them positive, constructive, and uplifting.

FOCUS visits families in the hospital.

Hospital Visits

FOCUS volunteers and staff visit children who are hospitalized at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and Egleston.

FOCUS newsletter

Newsletter

The FOCUS Newsletter is published regularly and is written mostly by parents and professionals.

FOCUS offers many workshops/webinars for families of children with disabilities.

Recorded Workshops

FOCUS offers many ways workshops throughout the year and an annual education conference.

Family Activities

FOCUS makes outings possible for families by raising funds to offer very discounted tickets to community attractions in addition to offering time to gather and form community with other families on similar journeys.

Family Camp

Escape with your family to the fully adaptive Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia. From Friday afternoon to Sunday morning, enjoy time with family filled with activities for the whole family! Some of the experiences you can join are paddle boats, a zipline, archery, fishing, climbing and other activities like arts and crafts and music! FOCUS Family camp prioritizes inclusivity, making sure that everyone in your household is a part of the family fun!

Extra Special Saturday Respite

Respite Care is a wonderful time for children to enjoy free play, music therapy, and extra attention from FOCUS caregivers and volunteers. These hours of free childcare give parents the opportunity to enjoy a break, run an errand, or take a nap!

Summer Day Camps

FOCUS day camps offer the care children need – and the fun children deserve!

Children with multiple disabilities have few opportunities to attend summer camp; their medical, physical, or cognitive needs cannot be managed by most camps.  FOCUS cares about the safety of your child, while offering fun activities that everyone will love.

FAST Fins Adaptive Swim Team

FOCUS Adaptive Swim Team (FAST Fins) concentrates on perfecting swim strokes, improving stamina, developing team skills, building self-confidence, following verbal commands, and increasing fitness.

Teens and Young Adults Programs

FOCUS Teen and Young Adults (TYA) Program supports teens in monthly social activities that vary from bowling; sports activities; dancing; yoga; drumming; or just hanging out. All activities meet teens and young adults where they are at, and we encourage independent participation but always have volunteers to lend a helping hand.

Overnight Camps

FOCUS hosts overnight programs at Camp Twin Lakes for Teens and Young Adults in the summer and fall each year.

Equipment Program

FOCUS’s Equipment Program offers an opportunity for families to provide their children with equipment to improve their quality of life.

Loaned Equipment Library

Check out the loaned equipment library to see what equipment we have in stock for your family to borrow.

Equipment Grant Program

FOCUS provides grants for children with developmental and physical disabilities who would benefit from the equipment to support participation in daily life.
